Victoria banned single-use plastic straws, cutlery, plates, drink stirrers, cotton-bud sticks and expanded polystyrene food and drink containers from 1 February 2023 under the Environment Protection Amendment (Banning Single-Use Plastic Items) Regulations 2022, made under the Environment Protection Act 2017, alongside its earlier lightweight bag ban. Because the bans were made by regulation there was no second-reading debate.

On 1 January 2026 the exemption for banned items integrated into food or drink packaging by machine, such as yoghurt spoons and juice-box straws, ended, extending the ban to those products.
