Plastic Free Places works with food businesses, markets, events and councils to replace single-use plastics with reusables or verified alternatives, then certifies them as Plastic Free Champions. It reported 44 million items eliminated as at 31 May 2026. Councils fund regional programmes; the Plastic Free North Queensland programme ended in March 2026.

Honest caveat: availability depends on whether your council funds a local programme; the toolkit is still useful without one.
