British Columbia's Single-Use and Plastic Waste Prevention Regulation (B.C. Reg. 254/2023, under the Environmental Management Act) was deposited on 1 December 2023. Its first rules took effect on 20 December 2023. The rules on oxo-degradable plastic, shopping bags and foodservice ware took effect on 15 July 2024.

Shops may not hand out plastic checkout bags. A recycled paper bag may only be sold for at least 25 cents and a reusable bag for at least $2, and the customer must first be offered the chance to use their own bag. Foodservice ware made of polystyrene foam, PVC, or biodegradable or compostable plastic is restricted, plastic single-use cutlery is banned, and straws, cutlery and other accessories may only be given on request. Packaging made of oxo-degradable plastic, which breaks into fragments rather than breaking down, is banned. Some exemptions end on 1 July 2028 and 1 July 2030.
