Write to your representative about plastics

Find your federal electorate (Australia), Member of Parliament (UK) or representative (US) and write a short, specific letter; a template is on our Letters page.

Elected representatives count letters, and packaging law is being written right now: Australia is drafting a national packaging regulatory scheme and New South Wales (NSW) is legislating its Plastics Plan 2.0 in 2026; the UK deposit return scheme launches in October 2027; the Global Plastics Treaty negotiations resumed under a new chair in February 2026 after the Geneva round ended without a text.

Keep it to one page, one ask (for example mandatory producer responsibility for soft plastics, or a production cap in the treaty), and say where you live. Australia: electorate.aec.gov.au/ finds your electorate. UK: writetothem.com/ (mySociety, charity 1076346). US: house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative

Honest caveat: form letters are discounted; your own three sentences beat a template.
