Areca palm-leaf tableware is made from sheaths that fall naturally from the tree, which are washed and pressed with heat into plates and bowls. No binders or coatings are needed.

It replaces disposable plastic plates and bowls for events and catering. Production is dominated by small and medium producers in South India.

End of life is home composting, with vendors claiming roughly 60 days. No independent life-cycle assessment (LCA) was located; every source found is a vendor page. For European or North American buyers, shipping from South India is likely to dominate the footprint.

Treat this as low-evidence but plausible. Cost is low to moderate per plate, above plastic.
